Foothills Icelandics
Foothills Icelandics is located in the community of Copperfield, in the far southeast corner of the City of Calgary, in Alberta. Calgary, Alberta is the gateway to the Rocky Mountains, and itself and surrounding cities and towns are often referred to as the Foothills areas. With only small back yards for playing in, we frequently have to be creative to find other avenues for our dogs to get a fair share of exercise, and have some fun chasing the birds or each other. Sometimes this means long walks around our shared community park venues, sometimes wandering through the treacherous construction areas where many new homes are still under development, or best of all enjoying a afternoon at one of Calgary's many off leash parks, or a day trip hiking at either Canmore, Kananaskis country, and sometimes the rockier terrain, in the mountainous regions further west of Calgary.
We are now a growing family of Icelandics, with Tyra and Vindur being our first dogs, and now that our new son Mathew has joined our lives, the humans outnubered the dogs. Shortly after we got Skella from Hiemskauts in California. Below is our family.
We are pleased to provide the people we interact with, a great example of how friendly, loveable, and well trained the icelandic breed can be, even in the busiest of family units. The Icelandics are the perfect combination of energy and peace in a dog. They love to work, run, and play sports but also are content relaxing in front of the fireplace. They socialize well with other dogs and humans and are highly adaptable to the owners individual lifestyles.
Tyra is our current breeding female and has now had 2 litters. The first was in Spring 06, the second was in Winter 08.This will likely be her last litter, as we will either be looking at Skella, or other dogs for our future litters.
If you are considering purchasing an icelandic puppy from the foothills kennel or any other kennel, please take the time to do some research, both here on our website, and through further searches and reading on the internet. Acquiring a dog of any breed is a large responsibility, and not one that should be taken lightly. It's important to try to understand and be as familiar as possible with the breed long before you make the agreement with any breeder, that way you know what to expect from your decision, and both you and your new puppies are guaranteed a companion for life.
